Cell2Jack Dialing Codes and Lights

Cell2Jack is a cool device which pairs to your cell phone via Bluetooth to allow you to use any landline phone with your cell phone. There are many settings you can change either via the Mac/Windows utility or via dialing codes on the landline phone. There are also 2 lights on the front. Let's take a look at what each code does and what each light color/pattern means.
Big LED:
White: Power on and on-hook, or playing the voice prompt "Power on." over the phone.
Dark blue: Power on and off-hook.
Light blue: Booting up or corrupt firmware.
Off: Power off.

Small LED:
Solid red: Bluetooth connected.
Flashing red: Pairing mode.
Solid yellow: Phone call or Bluetooth HFP-compatible audio stream active on Bluetooth device.
Flashing between red and yellow: Landline phones ringing for incoming call on Bluetooth device.
Flashing yellow: Landline phones ringing for ringback test (see below).
2 flashes yellow: Valid command or setting code entered (see below).
Off: Bluetooth not connected/power off.

Commands:
  • #*# or 0000: Enter pairing mode.
  • * or 1111: Start cell phone voice assistant (e.g. Siri or Google Now).
  • *67<number>: Hide your caller ID for this call to <number>.
  • 89#: Ringback test. Dial this code and hang up to make the landline phones ring. No caller ID will be sent to your phones with this call.
  • 99#: Reboot/reconnect.
  • 82#83#: Reset Cell2Jack to factory settings and unpair all devices. I believe the use of 2 codes is a preventative measure--82# will force the next code through and must also be entered before 83#, otherwise 83# won't do anything.

Settings (bold is default):
  • 2# or 3#: Turn LED debug display (yellow small LED) on (3#) or off (2#). This setting turns off when Cell2Jack reboots or power is lost.
  • 10# or 12#: Selects whether 7-digit calls are placed after 10 seconds (10#) or only after pressing # (12#). 10-digit, 1 + 10-digit, and N11 calls will always be placed immediately unless set to 12#.
  • 14# or 15#: Turn robocall blocking on or off. When turned on, an automated phone service in Cell2Jack picks up any incoming call and asks the caller to dial 000 to ring the landline phones. This is a very basic implementation of the feature many new cordless phones have which screens callers to make sure they're human.
  • 20# or 21#: Selects normal or strong ringing voltage. Use strong if you use one or more bell/mechanical ring phones.
  • 24#-28# (default = 26#): Speaker/incoming line volume.
  • 90#-94# (default = 92#): Mic/outgoing line volume.
  • 72#, 71#, 70#, 73#, or 74#: Off-hook line power (low, medium, high, strong, strongest). Increase if you want to be able to reliably have more than one phone off-hook or to use certain line-powered phones (especially those with line-powered displays/lights/speakerphones).
  • 30#-33# (default = 32#): Off-hook detection speed in milliseconds. This setting is used to slightly adjust the delay between when the landline phone is answered and when Cell2Jack sends the "answer" command to the Bluetooth device.
  • 35#-36#: Selects whether Cell2Jack should ask the cell phone to press a DTMF digit when it hears a DTMF tone during a call (35# = on, 36# = off).
  • 37#-39#: Selects how long Cell2Jack must hear a DTMF tone for it to be recognized as a real DTMF tone during a call (low/medium/high).
  • 41#-42#: Turn dial tone after call disconnection on or off.
  • 43#-44#: Turn TIP/RING reversal after call disconnection on or off. This causes the 2 clicks you often hear when the caller hangs up while you're using a landline phone, and is used to hang up answering systems and other automated phone systems.
  • 50#-51#: Turn caller ID transmission on or off. Transmitted caller ID depends on the cell phone and app receiving the call. Cell2Jack converts the Bluetooth caller ID data into the FSK tones your landline phone uses to receive caller ID. This even works for special characters like @ or !, which don’t appear in traditional caller ID.
  • 60#-61#: Turn Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) support on or off. When turned on, all Bluetooth audio will play through the landline phone. Cell2Jack will reboot upon changing this setting to refresh the available Bluetooth profiles. Note that if you pair a device which supports A2DP but not HFP while this setting is turned on, it can't connect or pair if this setting is turned off.
  • 80#-81#: Turn echo cancellation on or off. When turned off, audio sounds clearer, but the caller will hear an echo of themselves.

Notes:
  • Settings introduced since October 2020 don't have corresponding setting codes yet.
  • The small LED will never light yellow when LED debug display is off.
  • Dialing 1111 only works if Rotary Feature is turned on in the Mac/Windows utility (off by default).
  • Depending on the firmware version, a rising tone will be heard from the landline phone when entering a command or setting code.
  • The small LED's yellow flashes don't follow the ring signal.
  • When you hang up, there's a 1sec delay before the big LED switches from dark blue back to white. This is because Cell2Jack needs to determine whether you're going on-hook vs pulse dialing. The "end call" command is sent to the Bluetooth device immediately as the big LED turns white.

I love technology and landline phones. I've loved landline phones ever since I was little, and have lots of them in my room.
